Albufeira has a relatively new marina, which is located west of the old town. Albufeira villa holidays provide a chance to explore. The history of Albufeira dates back to the Roman Empire. In Roman times, Albufeira, the settlement, was called Baltum. It had a port and was involved with commerce and agriculture, and as such, you can see the remains of Roman bridges in Paderne and Guia. Albufeira is also known for its town of white houses and it still has narrow winding streets, to be explored by day or by night. The streets lead to Túnel and Peneco beaches, a stretch of sand framed by the town, which forms an amphitheatre facing the sea. Alongside the beach, the promenade provides other views, bounded to the west by the Xorino Cave, where the Moors took refuge in the 13th Century following the Christian reconquest of the town.
Despite being famous for its street ‘the Strip’ with lively nightlife, Albufeira still provides a family friendly vibe, particularly in the Old Town. With plenty of beaches, child-friendly activities and family focused attractions, and a bustling marina, Albufeira is an excellent place for a long overdue family villa holiday. Nearby you’ll find activities to suit all, a karting circuit, crazy golf course and the Algarve water park with pirate shows and pools on site.
