Chill out and relax on one of the many beautiful beaches for the day and take in some of the stunning surroundings on a romantic walk. Porto Moniz on the northern coast boasts a collection of natural, saltwater swimming pools moulded into lava cliffs. Why not visit the Sao Francisco Cellars, Madeira has a rich history of wine making. Madeira is famous across the world for its numerous and varied gardens, so visiting these is a must. Visit one of the beautiful botanical gardens, including the Botanical Gardens at Quinta do Bom Sucesso in Funchal, Monte’s Municipal Gardens and the Quinta Magnolia Gardens. The best way to see Madeira is on foot, so join one of the many Levada walks across the island. If it's a relaxing day on the beach you are looking for, then take to the waves and hop on a ferry to tranquil Porto Santo, fringed with a coastline that could have been plucked right out of the Caribbean. Madeira is home to stunning Levada walks, found all over the island are these famous walking trails which run alongside open irrigation channels with different levels of difficulty for all abilities. These routes date back to the early 16th-century, when the Levadas were created to distribute water around the island, these waterways are still used today to move water across the island to reach populations and farms. Perhaps round off your exploring with an afternoon tea at Reids Palace or with a cocktail back at your villa with a private pool.
As Spring is in full bloom after Easter, Madeira holds a weekend-long flower festival full of parades, exhibitions, workshops and lots of colour. The Atlantic festival, held in June herald the arrival of summer. Massive fireworks displays with music are held every Saturday as well as a series of events all months.

For a fun morning out head to the Faja dos Padres cable car, a breathtaking four-minute ascent up to the cliff top of Faja dos Padres. If you’re looking to experience local culture, head to Santana, a sleepy village on the north-eastern side of Madeira that’s populated with characteristic and traditional triangular houses with thatched roofs. For the ultimate adrenaline rush, no trip to Funchal is complete without embarking on a Monte toboggan ride. This traditional and very quirky experience has you boarding a small wicker toboggan at the top of the hill and whizzing down the road in the experienced hands of local guides dressed in white.
For those looking to take to the water, head to Praia do Vigario, a small public beach with a pool close to the resort of Camara de Lobos offering plenty of space for sunbathing as well as a selection of water sports for you to enjoy. For those keen surfers, head to Jardim do Mar for the best surf.
