Alcudia is a perfectly restored walled city on the site of a Roman settlement with remains of ancient houses and a theatre. The maze of narrow streets is enclosed by medieval battlements which have been carefully restored. Take a peek inside the courtyards of the 16th Century urban palaces and visit the 19th Century Neo Gothic parish church of Sant Jaume. The Roman remains of Pollensa are amongst some of the most famous sites. Artefacts of the site were first discovered in the 17th Century but excavations were not started until 1923, the work still continues today. Here you will find the smallest Roman theatre in Spain, where you can see remains of tombs amongst the stands, the forum and the residential area of La Portella. There is also a museum, in the centre of Alcudia which displays many of the objects found on the site. Contemporary art fans will love the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum where 16th to 19th Century paintings are exhibited alongside 20th Century sculptures.
