Start your journey outside the city at one of the most well-preserved and renowned archaeological sites in Italy, the ancient Roman town of Casulae. Today many structures still stand like the basilica, public baths, amphitheatre and theatre – an absolute must-see when staying in one of our Terni villas. In town, you can visit churches like the San Salvatore and San Francesco d'Assisi, another Roman amphitheatre and some pilgrimage spots for art lovers – make sure to stop at the Bishop's Palace with its murals of papal insignia.
For a great family day out when staying in a family villa in Terni, hire a car and head to the gorgeous countryside, home of national parks and waterfalls. The whole family will love the luscious and cinematic Black River Park (or Parco Fluviale del Nera), offering some great hiking trails, wildlife walks and opportunities for bike rides. The park is also home to the famous Cascata delle Marmore, a 165-metre-high waterfall which immense crashes echo around the park. Make a day of it and head east of the city to the Black River Park, a protected area of 2,200 hectares where you can hike, cycle, trek and find adventure amongst the waterfalls and trees. From here you can also easily access the Lago di Piediluco, a picturesque natural lake fed by the Nera and Velino rivers. Hike around the lake and bash through the surrounding forest as you make your way to Corso Quattro Novembre on the northern shores of the lake, where you can grab a refreshment and enjoy the spectacular scenery in one of the restaurants or bars.
